People who have made a concrete impact within the past five years are eligible. This ranges from crewmembers to yacht owners, designers, and more. The impacts, meanwhile, are equally varied, from diversity and inclusion, to sustainability, new technologies, scientific research, and philanthropy. Having experience in the garment industry, she knew that clothing manufacturers had what\u2019s called dead stock. Briefly, dead stock is unsold inventory that has lingered for some time and likely will remain unsold. When she learned about the advanced fibers comprising modern sails, \u201cnaturally, my first thought was, \u2018Where\u2019s the dead stock?\u2019\u201d Once Abshier learned that yachts have custom orders,&nbsp; she had her answer: there isn\u2019t any. \u201cHowever, there are tons and tons, quite literally, of dead superyacht sails,\u201d she says. \u201cSo it felt really good to be able to think that we could use our waste as solutions for folks in need.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/megayachtnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Honours-2025-4.jpg\" alt=\"The Honours awards\" class=\"wp-image-84910\" srcset=\"https:\/\/megayachtnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Honours-2025-4.jpg 780w, https:\/\/megayachtnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Honours-2025-4-300x154.jpg 300w, https:\/\/megayachtnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Honours-2025-4-768x394.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Francisca Cort\u00e9s Solari<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Francisca Cort\u00e9s Solari, meanwhile, has spent more than 20 years championing sustainable change across her native Chile. She had her yacht, <em>Cachalote, <\/em>built in 2021 in Chile, too. Sails and solar panels reduce reliance on fuel. Everything from decking to paneling is eco-friendly or derives from a sustainable source. Cort\u00e9s Solari has also been using <em>Cachalote<\/em> to help scientists develop technology for vessels to avoid colliding with whales. \u201cWe realized no such early-warning technology existed,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen you look at the ecosystem services whales provide throughout their lives, it means that a single whale captures 33 tons of carbon over its lifetime. That has an economic value of four million dollars for the ecosystem.\u201d She adds, \u201cThat\u2019s why it\u2019s so important to understand that if we harm a whale, the impact isn\u2019t just on that one whale.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/megayachtnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Honours-2025-3.jpg\" alt=\"The Honours awards Rosie O'Donnell\" class=\"wp-image-84909\" srcset=\"https:\/\/megayachtnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Honours-2025-3.jpg 780w, https:\/\/megayachtnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Honours-2025-3-300x154.jpg 300w, https:\/\/megayachtnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/The-Honours-2025-3-768x394.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Rosie O&#8217;Donnell<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, Rosie O\u2019Donnell helped establish the non-profit Yachts for Science. Marine biologists submit research projects, and the non-profit team pairs them with yachts whose owners have expressed interest in assisting. \u201cLots of people are really interested in getting onboard because it\u2019s such a simple process,\u201d she says. Notably, O\u2019Donnell explains, research vessels usually have a two-year waiting list, plus are quite expensive. Easily, marine researchers submit 100 applications before one receives funding. \u201cSo, by the time they\u2019re arrived at the point of meeting a private owner with their vessel, they\u2019re so grateful for having the platform in order to do their research,\u201d O\u2019Donnell states.
