The Superyacht Cup Palma 2023 takes place in June, yet already, upwards of a dozen sailing superyachts may go head to head. They include previous competitors, a nearly 100-year-old yacht, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From June 21 to 24, the waters off Palma de Mallorca in Spain will host the fleet. Now 27 years old, the regatta is the longest-running European superyacht race. Outside of Covid canceling it in 2020, it has occurred year after year. Palma has further been the host city all that time. Being part of the Balearic Islands, naturally it frequently draws cruising owners and guests. Overall, besides its excellent conditions for racing, it earns renown for spectacular sunsets, and its equally spectacular on-land scenery. A 13th<\/sup>-century cathedral dominates the skyline, for instance. Additionally, you\u2019ll find Arab baths dating to the 10th<\/sup> century, plus narrow winding streets in the city\u2019s old quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For the Superyacht Cup Palma 2023, organizers and spectators are most excited to see the J Class fleet return. Velsheda <\/em>(a 1933 delivery), Svea,<\/em> and Lionheart<\/em> will compete. Lionheart <\/em>last participated in the race nearly a decade ago. Her fellow J Class competitors haven\u2019t forgotten those days, though, since she took three wins, including a dead-heat finish. These granted her first place that year, 2014. Her captain, Toby Brand, says, \u201cYou never forget a great event with terrific sailing conditions, so we are all looking forward to a long-overdue return visit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
